The Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery is proud to announce that Professor Matt Higgins has been appointed the 40th Professor of Physic at Gresham College.

As a Principal Investigator at Kavli Oxford and the EP Abraham Chair of Structural Biology at the Department of Biochemistry, Matt follows a prestigious line of scientists in this historic role.

As part of Oxford’s interdisciplinary research community, Matt leads a team at Kavli Oxford which focuses on the ‘nanoscale’ architecture of how the malaria parasite interacts with human cells, using this insight to design improved vaccines and immunotherapeutics.

This appointment at Gresham College will provide a unique platform to share these insights with a global audience. Matt will deliver a series of free public lectures, continuing a 430-year-old tradition of making cutting-edge research accessible to all.

I am very excited to have the chance to engage with the wonderful Gresham audiences and to tell some amazing stories about how modern medicine makes all of our lives so immeasurably better,’ said Professor Higgins.

Professor Jane Shaw, Provost of Gresham College, welcomed the appointment:

‘I am delighted we have appointed Professor Higgins as Professor of Physic at Gresham College. This is one of our oldest and most prestigious Professorships, dating back to our foundation, and Professor Higgins will bring his learning, insights from his innovative research, enthusiasm and energy to the post.’
