Global Young Scientists Summit 2026

Kavli Oxford’s Raman van Wee, a DPhil student based in the Kukura Lab and an Oxford University Graduate Joint Consultative Forum representative, recently attended the Global Young Scientists Summit 2026 in Singapore.

 

The Global Young Scientists Summit brings together ‘young scientists and top minds from around the world to discuss how research and innovation can address major global challenges’. Van Wee was one of three University of Oxford students selected to attend the event and his attendance was made possible by a Messel Travel Bursary. The theme for the 2026 summit was ‘Excite, Engage, Enable’. Participants attended plenaries, panels, fireside chats, quickfire pitches and poster sessions. They were also given the opportunity visit their choice of Singapore’s leading research institutions. Van Wee elected to visit Nanyang Technical University (NTU), where he was ‘impressed by the vision and resources of NTU to foster excellence in research’.

I look back on a very inspirational summit that has demystified some of these great discoveries, by showing that most of them are driven by a combination risk-taking, challenging existing paradigms, and perseverance. Last, but not least, it was also very fun to exchange perspectives with young scientists from all over the world. I am grateful to the Society for Chemical Industry for their generous support through the Messel Travel Bursary to attend this summit. – Raman van Wee
