Mootaz Salman Awarded Geoffrey Burnstock Prize by the British Pharmacological Society

Huge congratulations to Dr Mootaz Salman, who has been awarded the Geoffrey Burnstock Prize by the British Pharmacological Society.

This prestigious prize recognises the achievements of established researchers and has been awarded by the Society since 1972. Previously known as the Sandoz and Novartis Prize, it was renamed in 2020 in honour of Professor Geoffrey Burnstock — a pioneer in purinergic signalling and one of the most cited pharmacologists in the world. The prize celebrates not only scientific excellence but also a strong commitment to academic mentorship, which Professor Burnstock regarded as his proudest legacy.

Upon receiving the award, Mootaz said:

“I am truly honoured to receive the Geoffrey Burnstock Prize. Professor Burnstock’s legacy in pharmacology and signalling, and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists, continue to inspire the field. To be recognised with an award that carries his name, and celebrates both scientific achievement and the spirit of academic mentorship, is deeply meaningful to me.

Achievements like this are never possible without the hard work and dedication of my team, and the support of my mentors throughout my career.”

Since April 2021, Oxford University's KAVLI Institute for Nanoscience Discovery is proudly serving as a hub for research groups from seven different departments spanning both the medical and physical sciences, including Salman Group from the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics.
