Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building is officially opened

On Wednesday 15th June we officially opened the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building home to, among others, the Department of Biochemistry and the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery. The event started with speeches from Professor Francis Barr, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Professor Dame Carol Robinson, Director of the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, and Professor Elspeth Garman. After Professor Garman cut the ribbon to officially open the building, guests moved inside for a drinks reception followed by tours of the building.

We are grateful to all those who attended and helped make the day so special. We are particularly grateful to the family of Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin for attending the building opening. We are also grateful to Georgina Ferry, Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin’s biographer, who came to speak to us about the importance of Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin’s work and her experience as a woman in science in the 1930s.

After the building opening, we were delighted to see so many attend the Courtyard Party. After having to postpone the 2021 Christmas Party due to the pandemic, we were very happy to have had the chance to put on this event and see everyone catch up in the sun.
