Carla Kirschbaum Awarded Leopoldina Fellowship for Innovative Lipid-Protein Research
It is our great pleasure to share that Carla Kirschbaum, from the Robinson Lab, has received a Fellowship from Leopoldina (The German National Academy, founded in 1652).
Every year the award committee goes through several rounds of selection and finally selects up to 5 Fellows across all disciplines. Carla will carry out her research project, designed to understand the effects of lipid isomers on protein complexes, in the Robinson Laboratory. While it is becoming increasingly evident that lipid composition changes in the pathogenesis of various metabolic diseases and cancer in particular, their effects on membrane proteins have not been studied. Carla will use mass spectrometric approaches to decipher the interactions between membrane proteins and lipids in various disease states.
"I'm deeply honoured to receive a Leopoldina Fellowship and look forward to working in the Robinson lab on this exciting topic. This research has the potential to advance our understanding of metabolic diseases and cancer, and I'm excited to contribute to this important field."
Since April 2021, Oxford University's KAVLI Institute for Nanoscience Discovery is proudly serving as a hub for research groups from seven different departments spanning both the medical and physical sciences, including Professor Carol Robinson's Group from the Department of Chemistry.
