Celebrating Excellence: Four Oxford Scientists Honoured by the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences
On Friday, we were delighted to celebrate the election of four new Fellows: Philipp Kukura to the Royal Society, and Dame Molly Stevens, Matthew Higgins, and Simon Draper to the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Short speeches were given by the Head of Chemistry (Stephen Fletcher), Head of MPLS (James Naismith), Head of Section (Grant Ritchie), and Director of the Kavli Institute (Dame Carol Robinson), before Philipp’s acceptance.
As an Oxford undergraduate, Philipp had the pleasure of celebrating with his former tutors at St Hugh’s (Jenny Green and Luet Wong) and his Part II supervisor, Christiane Timmel. He highlighted the importance of the environment fostered by the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, led by Carol Robinson; the support of his closest collaborator, Justin Benesch; and the contributions of former and current members of his research group in enabling the science that led to this honour.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all four new Fellows and our sincere thanks to Desiree Tennant and Sabine Rauschenbach for organising the event.
